Why is it necessary to use larger size drive and a line reactor when applying single phase input to a drive?

The rectifiers must be rated to carry the increased motor current drawl due to single phasing the input.
Single phase input greatly increases the voltage ripple on the DC bus capacitors. This causes additional stress on the caps. A 3% line reactor helps reduce this ripple.
