Safety shuttered outlets will not accept a plug

Issue:

Surge safety shuttered outlet is not accepting my device's electrical plug.

Cause:

These outlets are designed to be child safe; they open only when equal pressure is applied to both shutters. If you lean more on one side, then the shutter will not slide open.

Resolution:

Holding the molded portion of the equipment's plug, try to adjust the alignment to equally distribute pressure across both prongs.

Plugs that have a cord at a 90-degree angle to their prongs (right-angled plugs) can be more difficult to insert than others.
