Power Monitoring Expert 8.x - Why is no data being uploaded from my EM4800 after an upgrade from PME 7.2.2?
Product Line
Power Monitoring Expert 8.x

Environment
SQL data logging

Cause
After upgrade from PME 7.2.2, all logging stops for an EM4800. The Factory Information section of the Diagnostics Tool output shows 'Illegal Data Address' in both the Volts Mode and Revision columns for this device. The Log Inserter requires valid values for these two bits of information. If they can not be determined, no logs from this device will be processed, whether generated by the VIP, or by the MDI.

As of PME 8.0, Log Inserter validation rules were made more stringent, which is why this was not a problem in versions of PME prior to 8.0.

This will happen if the EM4800 has old firmware. On these devices, the modbus register that we request data from (4867) does not exist, thus the 'Illegal Data Address' error. Note that on these old devices, there is no on-board logging. All logging must be done either by the VIP or using the MDI.

Resolution
*Warning: Take backups of any files prior to modifying them. Ensure the backups are in a location that will not be overwritten (i.e. the Desktop).*

A new version of the EM4800 dll that will correct this problem is attached to this article. To deploy the updated file 'xlEM4800.dll':
  1. Stop ALL ION Services (Windows services)
  2. Navigate to the Power Monitoring Expert install directory, and then to the \system\bin folder.
    (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\Power Monitoring Expert\system\bin)
*Warning: Rename or back up the existing file 'xlEM4800.dll' before replacing it with the updated file in case it is necessary to revert to the original file.*
  3. Copy the attached file and paste into the directory referred to above in step 2.
  4. Start the ALL ION services
