In panelboards, a subfeed breaker is a lug in/lug out branch breaker mounted, not on the panelboard interior bus bars, but at the opposite end of the main and cabled to the interior. They are typically of larger amperage than branch breakers mounted on the panel bus and they increase the overall panel height. See example representations below of a subfeed breaker on an NQ panelboard:
