While there are many different voltage systems, the below picture shows some common US and Canada nominal voltage systems 600Vac and below.

Voltage System images

  • In the voltage system designation (eg. 480Y/277) the higher number is always the phase to phase voltage and the smaller number is the phase to ground voltage.
  • If the higher number is first, it is a 3-phase system.  If the lower number is first (eg. 120/240), it is a single phase system.
