What does IEEE 1686 require?

IEEE 1686-2013 is the IEEE Standard for Intelligent Electronic Devices Cyber Security Capabilities and it is taking passwords and security logging to the next level. It improved device level security by requiring:
i. Passwords at least 8 characters long with upper-case, lower-case, and special characters
ii. Role Based Access Control (RBAC)
iii. Record of an audit trail
iv. No password defeat mechanism
v. Unused ports may be disabled
vi. Passwords are never displayed or transmitted to a user
