OSA 2020 ADVC2 Work tag setting lost - Product Safety Notice

Issue
The Work Tag / Hot Line Tag setting is enabled on the controller but unexpectedly reverts back to disabled.

Product
PTCC (firmware version V28.23.02 and lower)
ADVC1 (all firmware versions)
ADVC2 (firmware version A45-51.02 and lower)

Environment
Recloser control systems using ADVC controllers
Distribution automation networks
Live-line maintenance operations

Cause
Investigations determined that the issue occurs under the following conditions:

• The Work Tag / Hot Line Tag setting is enabled
• An unexpected controller reset (similar to a system crash) occurs within up to 24 hours after enabling the setting

This condition may lead to the Work Tag / Hot Line Tag being unintentionally disabled.

Schneider Electric has identified a potential unsafe condition where the Work Tag / Hot Line Tag setting may be lost after an unexpected controller reset. This feature is critical for live-line work as it ensures fast trip characteristics and prevents auto-reclosing.

Important Risk:
If the setting becomes disabled and an operator is working on a live line, there is a potential risk of personal injury. Although the probability is considered extremely low, precautionary actions are required.

Affected Controllers:

• PTCC ≤ V28.23.02
• ADVC1 (all versions)
• ADVC2 ≤ A45-51.02
  (Note: This issue does not affect ADVC3 controllers.)

Recommended Containment Actions:

1. Save Settings via Power Cycle
• After enabling the Work Tag / Hot Line Tag, perform a power cycle (switch both MCBs OFF and then ON)
• This ensures settings are saved to permanent memory
2. Save Settings via WSOS Command
• Use WSOS version 5.16.25 or later
• Execute a command to save settings immediately to permanent memory
• This can be done locally or remotely
3. Operational Recommendation
• Always confirm that the Work Tag / Hot Line Tag remains enabled before performing live-line work
• Apply containment actions prior to each intervention
4. Further Actions
• Share this notice with all relevant personnel or end users
• Contact Schneider Electric support for firmware updates, tools, or additional guidance
