Why does the Group G retrofit controller give a “Position Error” alarm immediately after installation?
The Group G retrofit controller will need to see both the position and voltage inputs at the same time upon powering up. If the voltage inputs are sensed first before the position inputs, the controller will give the “Position Error” alarm. This frequently happens when the user installs the retrofit controller with power still applied to the target ATS unit and the P1 and P2 plugs from the old system harness are plugged in one after the other to the new controller.

When installing the retrofit kit, all power to the ATS should be turned off, the controller and the related hardware are configured, mounted, and securely connected before re-applying the power. Similarly, when the controller is already in the alarm condition, the best way to clear the alarm is to reboot the controller by turning off the power supplied to the ATS, and after the controller has completely turned off, re-apply the power back.

Other alternative methods involving live sources are discouraged due to safety reasons. Hence, the installation of the retrofit controller must be performed on a scheduled downtime.

Reference the Installation Manual 381339-313 which is included with the retrofit kit.
