Is it possible to do a conduit entry at the top of an EX transformer?
Issue:
Transformer conductor routing
Product Line:
LV Transformers
Environment:
Applies to Ventilated and Non-Ventilated Transformers by Square D/Schneider Electric
Cause:
The incoming conductors to the Transformer have specific entry and exit areas on the enclosure
Resolution:
On the transformer drawing (see Technical Drawings for Catalog specific), the crosshatched areas shown on the Transformer are the only UL listed and approved ways of entering the Transformer with conduit and conductors. Installation of conductors above the arrows on the inside sticker is an unacceptable way of routing the conductors because they are in the path of the cooling airflow and also the cables are subject to damage via heat coming off the top of the Core and Coil. There should be a sticker located on the inner enclosure of the Transformer that indicates that conductors must not be installed above the arrows on the sticker. It is acceptable to enter the Transformer with conduit and cables from the sides or bottom, as long as it is below the terminal area on the Core and Coil. For this reason, Square D cannot advise entry of conduit to the enclosure from anywhere but the approved areas, and cannot advise details of how to do so otherwise.
