Issue
When Vijeo Designer is launched from inside EcoStruxure Machine Expert's Logic Builder, and a download is performed via "Ethernet" or "USB" cable, the Security Settings are not updated on the physical HMI to match the Buildtime Project's settings.
Product
Vijeo Designer when launched from inside EcoStruxure Machine Expert (all versions)
Environment
Physical HMI settings download from Configuration Software in Windows
Cause
Normally, in the Standalone version of Vijeo Designer (that is launched from the Vijeo Designer Shortcut and not from within the EcoStruxure Machine Expert Logic Builder), as soon as the user issues a Download command, there will be a prompt that pops up asking if the user would like to "Delete all Run-time Data"
When the checkbox is ticked, and the user clicks [Yes]. This will delete all Run-time data including Security settings in the physical HMI and overwrite it with the project's settings. For more information see: https://www.se.com/us/en/faqs/FA225803/
When using Vijeo Designer inside of EcoStruxure Machine Expert, this prompt does not get spawned upon a download attempt. The reason for this is is because downloads can also be triggered from the Logic Builder - Online dropdown menu > Multiple Download...
Often, users will download both to the PLC and HMI (or multiple) at the same time, and the PLC application is downloaded first in the software. And this would mean that the user would have waited until the PLC download completion, then at about 60% of the way, they would have to interact with a popup for the HMI. It was decided to remove this popup due to the annoyance of having a popup appear deep into the download process and just to respect the "Preserve Run-Time Data" setting of the project directly during a download. See below on how to set this up.
Resolution
1) In Vijeo Designer Buildtime, go to the Target > General menu
2) Then, to the right of the "Preserve Run-Time Data" text, click on the Ellipses Button which looks like: [...]
3) In the "Preserve Run-Time Data" settings popup window, UNTICK the "Security Settings" checkbox:
By default, the "Recipe" and "Security Settings" checkboxes are TICKED - meaning those values will be preserved on the physical HMI when you download, regardless of the changes made in the project.
Once that checkbox is unticked, the project's Security Settings will overwrite the existing settings in the physical HMI when the next subsequent Download is completed.
