Cause #1
When the user tries to open the VIP in Designer an error message is displayed which says, "Communications error, solve the problem and try again." Additionally, the ION Virtual Processor Service is not running.


Cause # 2
When the user tries to open the VIP in Designer an error message is displayed which says, "Communications error, solve the problem and try again." Additionally, the ION Virtual Processor Service is not running and cannot be started.

Resolution #1
Designer can't open the VIP because it is not running.

Resolution #2
The VIP is not running because both the vip.cfg and vip.bak files are corrupt. The current vip files (both .cfg and .bak in \config\cfg\vip\) should be deleted as well as the node diagram file (in \config\diagrams\nd). Then, when the ION Virtual Processor Service is started, a new, blank VIP will be created.
