For many years, we have had very few customer complaints regarding memory sticks. Recently, these issues have become more frequent. Investigation has determined that the issues were linked to certain USB3 memory sticks. A small percentage may have some issues with big data block read for big files. R&D eliminated this issue by reducing the reading block size. Another issue was determined to be very well-used sticks can fail, so new sticks are best.
The related product is Vijeo Designer lower than VJD6.2SP11 with VxWork target such as HMIGTO, HMIG3U, HMISTU.
In order to be able to use most of the USB3 sticks available in the market, a firmware revision will be included inside Vijeo Designer. This HotFix has been implemented on 6.2SP8HF16 (Released mid-December 2020). The HotFix will also be merged into the next standard service pack: 6.2SP11 (to be released in Q1 2021).
Investigation of USB2 sticks show generally that the stick is broken even though it looks like it is working fine in a PC. The reason is that the PC does not strictly check the file system so that the user can retrieve most of the files even if something is broken inside. In the automation world, it is not possible to take the risk to have an error inside a file and, therefore a damaged stick is rejected by the automation system.
Between now and the availability of the service pack, we recommend to use only USB2 sticks. With the Hot Fix and with the service packs 6.2SP11 or above, most of the USB2 and USB3 will work with our products. If you encounter a problem with a memory stick, first try to work with another one (if possible another model).
