Geo SCADA: Modbus and DNP3 driver log translation

Geo SCADA has a built-in translator which allows Advanced Modbus and DNP3 driver comms and I/O logs to be translated.  Translated logs are presented to a user in a format that is easy to read and understand.

Below are the steps to translate an Advanced Modbus or DNP3 comms or I/O log, and what the translated log looks like.

Step 1

Download the GS translator.zip file from this webpage and save it to your computer.  Unzip this file and save the two files to a directory on your hard drive.

Note: these batch files will only run on a computer in which the Geo SCADA server is installed.  Attempting to translate log files on a PC where the Geo SCADA server is not installed will result in an error.

Step 2

Create a folder and then copy and paste the log file (to be translated) to it.  Also copy and paste a copy of the translator utility to this folder.  Below are examples for both Modbus and DNP3:

Select the driver comms or IO log, left-click on it, hold and drag it onto the translation utility, then release.  (This is the same method that you would use to drag a file into a folder).

When you release the mouse button, you’ll notice a Windows command dialog (DOS window) appear briefly.  It should look similar to the dialog shown below:

The resulting translated log should automatically open in a web browser (I.E. Chrome, Edge, ETC).  You’ll notice that one or more HTML files (depending on the size of the log that you are translating) will be created in the folder (along side the log file and the translation tool).

Step 4

If a web browser does not automatically open, you can ‘double-click’ on the individual html files to launch them in a browser.  If you double-click on the ‘index’ file, the browser will display a list of all the other html files to ease navigation and viewing of the translated logs.

Selecting one of the hyper-linked line items will open the translated log from that time period
