This FAQ outlines the Firmware Update Settings available for each combination of NMC display firmware and UPS firmware.

Resolution:
The NMC has a Firmware Update Setting that is accessed via the Web UI (always) or the display (depends on NMC display FW version). If a Smart-UPS Modular Ultra firmware update will not complete, adjusting this setting may help get the UPS to update successfully. The available options depend on the both the UPS firmware and the NMC display firmware.

If nothing is selected on the Firmware Update Settings page, the update cannot be completed.
If the operating state of the UPS does not match the Firmware Update Setting, the update cannot be completed.
- UPS Firmware 10.8 only included capability for UPS FW update with UPS Output off
- UPS Firmware 13.2 or later also includes the capability for UPS FW update with UPS in Manual Bypass
- UPS Firmware 14.0 or later also includes the capability for UPS FW update with UPS Output on (so NMC replaces only in manual bypass option with immediately after download since update can be performed no matter what mode of UPS operation)
When set to “Manually,” an “Install” button will be available in the Configuration --> Firmware Update --> Upload webpage or Configuration --> Firmware Update display screen after the file distribution progress window closes. Refresh of web page or display screen is required. Pressing the “Install” button will command the UPS to proceed with the update.
Examples of the Firmware Update Settings options:
- On the display, navigate to: Configuration --> UPS --> Firmware Update --> Settings.
- UPS Firmware 10.8 and NMC display firmware 3.4.0 / 2.5.5 - manually, only when output is off after download.
- UPS Firmware 13.2 and NMC display firmware 3.4.0 / 2.5.5
- UPS Firmware 14.0 and NMC display firmware 2.4.0 / 2.5.5
- In the NMC Web UI, navigate to: Configuration --> UPS --> Firmware Update --> Settings.
- UPS firmware 10.8 and Any NMC display firmware – manually, only when output power is off after download
- UPS firmware 13.2 and NMC display firmware 3.2.0 / 2.5.1 (other combinations: 13.2 and 3.4.0 / 2.5.5, 14.0 and 2.5.1)
- UPS Firmware 14.0 and NMC display firmware 3.2.0 / 2.5.5
