How to use the IMP10S MVT with Realflo & SCADAPack x70 RTU's

The Control Microsystems / Schneider Electric 4102 MVT (multi variable transmitter) was primarily used with a SCADAPack running a Realflo flow computer for O&G Measurement. Since the 4102 MVT has been obsoleted, the Schneider Electric IMP10S can be used as a direct replacement.

There are a few minor details that a user needs to be aware of:

  • With Firmware version 1.001.130 or greater on the IMP10S, the MVT can be configured for 4102 Emulation mode. This mode allows the IMP10S to act as a direct replacement for any 4102.
  • When in 4102 Emulation mode, the IMP10S is compatible with ALL Realflo version 7 flow computers.
  • When using in standard IMP10S mode, the MVT can also be used with Realflo with the integrated IMP10S driver.
  • If your IMP10S device has a display, the display will continue to work when in 4102 emulation mode and is configurable via Realflo. If you are using the MVT in standard IMP10S mode, the displays will not be active.
  • When the IMP10S is in 4102 emulation mode, all Modbus registers are identical to the original 4102 MVT
  • The IMP10S Modbus MVT contains only 1 serial port, and it is RS-485. An end user may need a RS485 –> RS-232 Converter for initial configuration to a PC.
  • 4102 Displays are not compatible with IMP10S displays.
  • The IMP10S default serial port settings are
    • MB Address:          99
    • Baud                      9600
    • Parity                     None
    • Stop Bits                Two

How to Configure the IMP10S:

The IMP10S is shipped from the factory in IMP10S mode. If you have a display, you can set up the Modbus RS-485 communication settings with the pushbuttons. An example would be to set the following parameters, if they are not already configured.

  • MB Address:     A suitable unused address for your RS- 485 network (4102 default is 99)
  • Baud:            9600
  • Parity:           None
  • Stop Bits:      One (4102 default is One stop bit)

The IMP10S Modbus Configuration DTM and Schneider Electric Modbus protocol DTM’s can be used in RemoteConnect Maintenance Tool for simple configuration. The DTM's can also be used in PactWare.

Once the DTM’s are installed, you can configure the Modbus SL Communication DTM to match the IMP10S configuration for the RS-485 Modbus port.

The IMP10S can change modes between 4102 and native IMP10s, by the Device Overview configuration in the DTM. Alternatively, a user can skip using the DTM configuration and use a serial Modbus client (SCADAPack or Modbus simulator) and check R/W holding register 40455.

  • If Register 40455 = 255, then the MVT is in IMP10S mode (default)
  • If Register 40455 = 1, then the MVT is in 4102 Emulation mode

When using Realflo, the Sensor to search for will be a 4102 or an IMP10S
