Issue:
Understanding the Ethernet port options and their functions on the SAGE 4400 RTU.
Product:
SAGE 4400 RTU
Environment:
Substation automation systems using SAGE 4400 RTU for network communication and remote access.
Cause:
Users may be unclear about the number of Ethernet ports, their location, and configuration differences between standard and optional ports.
Resolution:
The SAGE 4400 RTU includes one standard Ethernet port on the front panel for primary access. Optional configurations may include a Switched Ethernet card providing three additional rear-panel ports and a WAN port for secondary network integration.
Switched Ethernet optimizes traffic flow and automatically detects cable type (straight-through or crossover).
Recommended practices: use a crossover cable for direct access and straight-through cables for network connections.
Each Ethernet port supports 10/100BASE-T auto-negotiation for speed and duplex settings. The WAN port uses a separate NIC and requires a unique IP address for integration into another network.
