Issue:

UPSs are generally installed and placed in places not easily seen by a user (i.e., under a desk, in a wiring closet, etc). Therefore, in order to provide proactive warnings of changing UPS and power conditions to users, APC's UPSs have audible tones. An occasional single beep from the UPS is normal UPS operations. This means that the UPS is protecting the load. Below is a partial list of audible indicators and possible meanings. Please refer to your Back-UPS user manual for the complete list of audible tones.

Product Line: 

All Back-UPS Families

Cause:

1.) The Back-UPS product is operating on battery power - This alarm indicates that the UPS has transferred from On Line operation to On Battery operation. The Battery Power Supplied outlets are now battery-powered.

2.) The Back-UPS product has entered a low battery condition - This alarm indicates that the UPS has reached a Low Battery condition and will soon shut down. The UPS can only operate on battery for a limited amount of time. In order to protect the unit's batteries from discharging too much, the UPS will shut down and turn off its output. To warn you that the unit will soon shut down, the UPS will sound this alarm 2 minutes before the actual shutdown. With optional APC management software, 2 minutes can be changed to give you more of a warning of impending shutdown. If you hear this tone, you should immediately gracefully shut down your operating system to prevent data loss or corruption.

3.) Capacity Overload - This alarm indicates that the UPS has detected an Overload condition. If this alarm is sounded, try removing non-essential equipment. The alarm will remain until the load is reduced. To determine if your UPS is capable of handling the equipment you want to protect, visit APC's UPS Selector .

4.) Unit failed a self-test - Most Back-UPS products perform an internal self-test every 14 days, checking the integrity of the battery. If the battery fails the self-test, the "Replace Battery" LED will illuminate. The Replace Battery LED is a WARNING that the battery may be near the end of its life, and replacement is typically recommended within 2-4 weeks.

5.) Disabling UPS audible alarm tones  - When using the PowerChute Personal Edition software, the UPS audible alarm tones can be disabled. (Not available on all Back-UPS Models)


Resolution:
1.) The Back-UPS product is operating on battery power
Tones:
• 4 Beeps Every 30 Seconds (the amber On Battery LED will be illuminated)
. 1 beep every 5 seconds

- If the input voltage is determined to be unsafe for your computer equipment, the UPS will transfer to On Battery. The alarm will stop once the unit returns to On Line operation. Please refer to the technical specification section of your user manual for the acceptable voltage window. Occasional transfers to On Battery should not be a matter of concern, but rather, should be considered normal operation. The UPS is trying to provide clean, safe, and reliable power. If your unit shipped with APC management software it may be possible to change the default acceptable voltages that the unit shipped with. Please see the help section of the APC management software for instructions to do this.

- If the Frequency deviates + or - 5 % this will also cause a Back-UPS product to transfer to battery power. Frequency distortions are most commonly caused by generators that are undersized. Always make sure a generator is 3 to 5 times the size of the total load attached to ensure it can maintain a steady output frequency. There is no way to change the +/- 5% deviation.

- If the shape of the incoming power is considered "too dirty", some Back-UPS products may transfer to battery power. This is most likely the problem if you have already confirmed that the input voltage is within acceptable limits. Most Back-UPS products have the ability to change their sensitivity to the shape of the input power from high to medium or even low. Please see your user manual for details as to how to adjust this setting.

Note: If the power disturbance is brief, you may only hear the unit beep once or twice.

2.) The Back-UPS product has entered a low battery condition
• Continuous Beeping (the amber On Battery LED will be illuminated)

Note: This graceful shutdown will occur automatically if the APC management software is being used.

3.)Capacity Overload
• Constant, Solid Tone (the red Overload LED will be illuminated)

If the Back-UPS emits a constant flat tone and reducing the load does not solve the problem please try the following steps:

1) Turn the UPS off.
2) Unplug all the equipment from the UPS
3) Unplug the UPS from the wall outlet
4) Push and hold the power on button (you will hear two beeps) release the button before the second beep ends.

At this point, the UPS will either go into battery and work fine or it will continue to emit a constant flat tone. If the unit still emits this tone, it is an indicator that the UPS was permanently damaged due to the overload. In some failure conditions, the UPS may continue to emit this constant tone even when removed from utility power. To immediately silence this alarm during this condition, the internal battery must be disconnected via the UPS battery access door. Please contact APC Support for replacement options or visit APC's Replacement UPS Selector.

4.) Unit failed a self-test
• Continuous Beeps for One Minute; Repeated Every 5 Hours (Replace Battery LED will be illuminated)

Step 1:
Confirm that the Back-UPS product's internal battery has been connected. The instructions on how to do this are in the user manual.

Step 2:
Verify that the UPS is not being overloaded (refer to the Back-UPS products User Manual for the watt capacity of the battery outlets). APC recommends plugging only the computers and monitors in the battery-powered outlets, other peripherals should be plugged into the "Surge Only" outlets labeled on the back of the UPS. Outlet strips or surge protectors should NEVER be plugged into any UPS. Remove any excessive load from the UPS. On the same note if the Back-UPS product is close to being fully loaded (>80% of the battery outlet’s watt capacity) it is not recommended that the Back-UPS product be used as a master on switch to turn on your equipment. Instead, power the Back-UPS product on letting it complete its self-test before turning on the connected equipment. It is also acceptable to leave the Back-UPS product on and never turn it off.

Step 3:
Disconnect the external battery pack if one is in use. A self-test should be performed with the UPS fully charged (charging without interruption or transfer to battery for 5 hours) and normal load attached. To do this, make sure the Back-UPS product is plugged into the wall, push the On/Off button and hold it for approximately 4 seconds until a long tone is heard. The "On Battery" (yellow) LED will illuminate while the "On-Line" (green) LED will flash. This test will last about 15 seconds and will yield one of 2 results: If the Replace Battery LED stays lit (the unit will beep/chirp for 1 full minute indicating a failed test) the battery should be replaced. If the replacement battery LED turns off, then the battery does not need replacement.


Step 4: (Proceed only if "step 3" does not clear the Replace Battery LED)
The Back-UPS product comes with a 2-year warranty which includes the battery. If the Back-UPS product was purchased within 2 years, please contact APC Support and reference the steps performed in this document. Also, include the exact part number and serial number found on the bottom of the Back-UPS RS/XS.

If the Back-UPS product is outside of the factory warranty, use the UPS Replacement Battery and Upgrade Selector which will offer out-of-warranty options for replacing an exhausted battery pack or upgrading to a new APC Back-UPS.

Step 1:

Connect the UPS's RJ45 to USB communications cable between the UPS and the computer. Ensure the USB cable is inserted directly into one of the host computer's native USB ports. Do not use a hub or after-market USB cards to establish communications.

Step 2:
Once the computer has detected the "New Hardware Device", see Video: Installation instructions for PowerChute Personal Edition 3.0.2 or 3.1  onto a currently supported operating system.

Step 3:
Once the software has been properly installed, the UPS's audible alarms can be disabled by accessing the "Notifications Configuration" section found under the "Configurations" Tab and altering the "Battery Back-UPS Alarm" section. Here the alarms can be enabled for all events, disabled for all events, and disabled during specific UPS conditions or during customer-specified time periods.

An APC Network Management Card must be configured with network settings before it can communicate on the network. Once the cards have been configured with an IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway the cards can be accessed, managed, and controlled from other computers on the network. There are multiple configuration options available, outlined below, for each family of Network Management Cards or devices that have embedded versions of these products.

A Network Management Card requires TCP/IP settings prior to being accessible via a network.


Resolution
Network Management Card 1:

In regards to Network Management Card 1 (AP9617, AP9618, AP9619) or devices with an embedded Network Management Card 1 (such as a AP78 or AP79 Rack PDU, Environmental Monitoring Unit, etc), there are three available options to configure the Network Management Card (NMC) with it's initial settings: the Wizard, terminal emulation (local/direct connection), and Address Resolution Protocol (ARP).

Default boot mode: DHCP/BootP - With DHCP Option 43 Vendor Cookie required to accept DHCP Offer.

By default, all of APC's Network Management Card 1 based devices are configured for a boot mode of DHCP/BOOTP. If using DHCP, a vendor cookie (DHCP Option 43) is required by default. If it is not configured on your DHCP server, the card will not accept an IP address. You can use the methods below to configure/access the card if you do not wish to use DHCP/BOOTP. Please see APC KB article FA156110 for more information on DHCP options.

Network Management Card 2/3

Default boot mode: DHCP Only - With DHCP Option 43 Vendor Cookie NOT required to accept DHCP Offer.

By default, all of APC's Network Management Card 2 and 3 based devices (such as an AP8XX Next Gen Rack PDU (NMC2 only)) with AOS 5.1.1 or higher, are configured for DHCP Only with no vendor cookie required by default. They will obtain an IP address automatically so you may need to refer to your DHCP server to find out what IP address it obtained. Please see APC KB article FA156110 for more information on DHCP options. 

All APC devices have a MAC address that begin with 00 C0 B7 which may help while reviewing your DHCP Client List.

In order to configure your Network Management Card-enabled device, select one of the available configuration methods listed below:

Configuration Option 1 - Device IP Configuration Wizard (NMC1/NMC2/NMC3): https://www.se.com/us/en/download/document/MFOI-AXRPRY/

The Device IP Configuration Wizard is a Windows application designed specifically to remotely configure the basic TCP/IP settings of Network Management Cards. The Wizard is included on the CD bundled with the cards, and available to download from the APC website. This utility supports NMC1/NMC2 cards that have firmware version 3.x.x or higher.

Please keep in mind that with certain firmware releases, the NMC can obtain a DHCP address and also prevent the wizard from working correctly. You may want to check your DHCP client list for any MAC addresses beginning with 00 C0 B7, which indicates an APC address. In addition, check the card you are trying to configure. Any card with valid IP settings will have a solid green status LED.

If using the wizard over the network, please note, the previously unconfigured NMC must be on the same subnet as the computer running the wizard. An alternative method to using the wizard via the network method may be to use a direct network connection between a computer and the NMC you are trying to configure and running the wizard. Ultimately, your computer and the NMC will be on a peer to peer network which will allow for configuration as well.

NOTE: This wizard will also not work with any Network Management Card family if the NMC was previously configured and not in DHCP or BOOTP boot mode. v5.0.0 and higher of the wizard, available from apc.com, allows you to locate unconfigured cards or locate configured cards on the network by IP range.

NOTE: The Device IP Configuration Wizard is not able to assign the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway settings of Network Management Cards running AOS 6.5.0 and 6.5.2. This is a known issue and has been resolved with AOS 6.5.6.

NOTE: In NMC2 firmware version 6.8.0 and higher, and in NMC3, you cannot search for assigned devices already on the network using an IP range unless you enable SNMPv1 and set the Community Name to “public”.

Configuration Option 2 - Terminal Emulation (local/direct connection - NMC1/NMC2/NMC3)

Terminal Emulation is a built-in function on most operating systems (ex: HyperTerminal). Before using any terminal emulation program, any services using the COM ports must be stopped. For example, if you are running a serial version of APC's PowerChute software, the APC UPS service must be stopped prior to running the terminal program. Then, follow these instructions:
 
NOTE: If you have the scroll lock on, HyperTerminal will not communicate properly with an APC UPS or accessory.
Connect to the UPS/device serial port using the correct APC configuration cable. Part numbers are below for common devices. Please refer to the User Guide if you are not sure or your device is not listed.

After connecting the correct cable, start the terminal emulation program of your choice. Configure port settings appropriately for the device you are attached to (refer to the User Guide for the particular device). Commonly used port settings are as follows:

Network Management Card 2 (AP9630, AP9631), Network Management Card 3 (AP9640, 19641)and related accessories require different configuration settings in order to be configured locally.

To connect to a NMC2, you must use the 940-0299 Tip, Ring Sleeve (TRS) to DB9 cable and connect it directly to the NMC2 into the 2.5mm jack labeled "console" rather than the UPS serial port. To connect to a NMC3, use the provided 960-0603 micro-USB cable.

  • Within a UPS, the NMC2 devices communicate with the following port settings:

  • Apply the port settings to establish the connection.
  • Press enter 3-5 times to display the username prompt.

  • Use the tcpip command to configure manual network settings to assign manual IP settings. The tcpip command automatically changes your boot mode to manual once you submit it. It is necessary to issue a reboot command immediately after assigning your manual settings. Text in italics indicates a variable.

Configuration Option 3 - ARP (Address Resolution Protocol - NMC1/NMC2)
Address resolution protocol (ARP) can also be used to configure the NMC. The MAC Address of the NMC is needed for this method of configuration. The MAC address is located on the quality assurance slip that shipped with the NMC, and is also located on a white sticker on the NMC itself. From a computer on the same subnet as the unconfigured NMC, follow these instructions:

\n
  • Open a command prompt or terminal window and type the following (replacing <IP address> and <MAC Address> with actual values): 
    NOTE: On Windows operating systems, you may need to run the command prompt as Administrator in order to use the arp command. To do this, right click on the Command Prompt shortcut and select "Run as Administrator."

arp<space>-s<space><IP address><space><MAC Address>
You must use the following format for the MAC Address: xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx

  • On Mac OS X specifically: sudo<space>arp<space>-s<space><IP address><space><MAC Address>
  • Next, use Ping with a size of 113 bytes to assign the IP address defined by the ARP command.

For the IP address defined in the first step, use one of the following:

  • Windows command format: ping<space><IP address><space>-l<space>113\n
    • The -l option is the letter L but must be lowercase when executing the command, as noted above.

  • Linux command format: ping<space><IP address><space>-s<space>113
  • Mac OS X command format: ping<space>-s<space>113<space><IP address>
  • Now, you can Telnet to the card by typing: telnet <IP address>
  • Use "apc" for username and password.
  • Configure/apply any additional changes based on the instructions above or in the user's manual.
  • Log out to save changes.

NOTE: Users will be unable to configure the IP address setting by using ARP on the network management cards running AOS 6.5.0 and 6.5.2. This is a known issue and has been resolved with AOS 6.5.6.

Configuration Option 4 - DHCP Option 12 (NMC2 devices, AOS 5.1.5 or higher only)
Beginning with the AOS 5.1.5 release, the NMC2 has implemented Option 12 (Host Name) as part of the DHCP request. DHCP option 12 uses the devices' host name. As of AOS 5.1.5, the default NMC host name will be apcXXYYZZ, where XXYYZZ represents the last six characters of the MAC Address (enclosed on a slip with the shipped product) of the NMC. It is also available on a sticker on the NMC2 itself.

If your network is setup correctly (described below), you will be able to access "unconfigured" / just-out-of-the-box NMCs by referencing the NMC as follows:

1.At a terminal (or DOS) prompt, ping the NMC using ping apcXXYYZZ

2. In a web browser, access the NMC web interface using http://apcXXYYZZ

NOTE: Tests have shown that even with the network properly configured, the ability to reference devices that support this option is not immediate. In APC tests, it took between 6 and 16 minutes before this functionality worked.  However, it worked every time (max wait 16 minutes).  Depending on your network setup, your experience may differ.

Network Setup:
In order for option 12 to work properly, the network segment must be configured with the "Dynamically update DNS A and PTR records for DHCP clients that do not request updates ..." (or equivalent) box selected.

Configuration Method 5 - via Smart-UPS front panel LCD - (Supported SMT, SMX, and SRT* Models with UPS NMC2/NMC3)

*NOTE: This method can be used to configure the embedded UPS NMC2 or optional secondary NMC2 for SRT models.

Some newer Smart-UPS models provide the capability to configure the Network Management Card 2/3 (NMC2/NMC3) IP address, subnet mask, and gateway using the front panel LCD display menu. Before proceeding, ensure your NMC2/NMC3 is installed in the UPS SmartSlot and is powered, indicated by the status LED on the NMC2/NMC3.

Your UPS display will look similar to one of the following types shown below. Press ESC to bring up the Menu, if not already displayed.

In order to access the NMC2NMC3 configuration functionality through the UPS LCD, the LCD menu must be put into Advanced Mode. This is accomplished by going into the Configuration menu and changing the Menu Type from Standard to Advanced on the UPS's LCD menu. Upon changing this menu setting, you will be able to configure the UPS NMC2/NMC3 by going back into the Configuration menu.

NMC2/NMC3 boot mode options available in Configuration Menu:

  • DHCP
  • DHCP & BOOTP

If you choose Manual mode, enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. DHCP (the NMC2 default AOS v5.1.1 and higher) and DHCP & BOOTP models will not require any further configuration beyond accepting the setting. After you've finished, the Network Management Card will reboot within ~1 minute after settings are applied, and the current IP settings will be displayed under the UPS LCD's About menu.

NOTE: If your UPS LCD menu doesn't have the Configure NMC: option after putting the UPS LCD menu in Advanced mode, you may have one or more of the following happening:

  • The NMC2/NMC3 is not being recognized by the UPS/UPS SmartSlot.
  • The UPS firmware doesn't support this functionality
\n

Note: If configuring for native shutdown via Control Panel - Power Options, the driver should be HID UPS Battery. If PowerChute had previously been install, the drive would be APC UPS. 

3.     From the Device Manager, select Human Interface Devices (HID). You should see a driver called American Power Conversion USB UPS. If either HID or this driver does not display, proceed with the steps below.
4.     Ensure the USB port is enabled in your computer's BIOS. Consult your computer documentation for details on how to enable the USB Port.
5.     If your installation includes a USB hub (a device that multiplies the number of USB ports available) and the UPS is plugged into it, check that the hub is receiving power. Check your hub's manual to learn whether the hub should be powered with an AC/DC adapter.
Note: APC recommends that the UPS USB cable be plugged into the PC's USB port directly, not into a USB hub for optimum performance.
6.     Ensure that the USB cable connected to the UPS is the last in the chain (downstream). Ensure all other USB devices upstream from your APC UPS have communication. If an upstream device is not communicating, any downstream device may not communicate. Remove the device that is not communicating and see if that has any effect.
7.     You can review all connected USB devices Using a freeware utility such as USBDeview.exe. See Schneider Electric FAQ283181 Video: How to verify USB communications between UPS and Windows OS using UsbDeview.exe
8.     If the USB drivers have loaded properly and USBDeview.exe can discover the UPS, yet PowerChute cannot discover the UPS, uninstall PowerChute, and reset the communications bus.
         a. For an SMT, SMTL, or SMX model UPS, on the display interface, hold the UP and DOWN buttons simultaneously for 10 - 12 seconds. The display flashes to indicate that the network interface has restarted.
        b. To reset the communications bus of an SMC model UPS, on the display interface, hold the MUTE and MENU buttons simultaneously for 10 - 12 seconds. The display flashes to indicate that the network interface has restarted.
        c. To reset the communications bus of an SCL model UPS, insert paperclip into the reset hole on the rear of the UPS.
        d. For all other Smart-UPS and Back-UPS, power down all equipment connected to the UPS, and cold start/brain-dead the UPS. For assistance with performing the cold start/brain dead procedure, see Schneider Electric Video: How to perform a cold start and brain dead on Smart-UPS or  How to cold start and brain dead a Back-UPS.  
9. On SMT and SMTL model UPS, disable Green mode. To disable Green mode from the UPS LCD panel, go to Configuration - Green Mode
10. Disable Selective Suspend Settings within the OS power options. To disable USB selective suspend, open the control panel. Go to Power Options, select Change Plan Settings, change Advanced Power Settings, USB settings

Additional Windows Troubleshooting Information
1.     After following the steps outlined in the Troubleshooting sections above, stop and restart the PowerChute Agent. If the system cannot communicate, proceed to the next step.
2.     If you have a SmartSlot accessory connected to the UPS, check that it is configured correctly. More information regarding these accessories is available at http://www.apc.com/products/
3.     If you still have not established communication, try using another communications (Serial/USB) cable if one is available.

Troubleshooting Communications on Linux
Serial Comm:
1.   Make sure that the serial cable that came with the UPS is connected from the serial port on the UPS to the serial port on your computer.  
2.   Stop and start the PowerChute Agent. If the Agent process is not running: start and stop it by entering the following commands in a command prompt:

1) Define a user within your AD/OpenLDAP server that will be used to make the connection.

NOTE: It is recommended that this user is set with a password that does not expire.  If the password expires, no users that are authenticated through the connection that uses the expired credentials will be able to login.  A local administrator user would need to be used to change the password for the bind user.

2) Within the DCE Desktop Client navigate to the System Menu and select Users and Device Group Access.
3) Click the Authentication Servers tab.
4) Click Add Authentication Server...

- Provide a label for the AD server.
- Enter the IP Address of the AD server.
- Select the Server Type.
- Click Next.

5) Enter the Bind User DN, which is the full path to bind user within the authentication server structure.

The bind user DN is required to be entered with specific syntax, which is case sensitive. EX: cn=bind-user,cn=Users,dc=dcim,dc=apc,dc=com
- It is recommended to user a service account for this configuration.  You may also elect to have a password that does not expire for this user in AD or your users may get locked out of the application until resolved.

6) Enter the Bind User Password, which is the password of the Bind User defined within Step 5.

7) Enter the Search Base where the users and groups are located within the AD/LDAP authentication server.

9) Check the boxes next to the users and user groups. Select Finish.

1) Within the DCE Desktop Client navigate to the System Menu and select Users and Device Group Access.

3) Select (left-click once) the Authentication Server.
4) Click Edit Authentication Server.
5) Click Next twice.
6) Select (checked box) or Deselect (unchecked box) the users and user groups.
7) Click Finish to finish the user additions/removals.
Remote: Editing User or User Group Access Permissions

1) Within the DCE Desktop Client navigate to the System Menu and select Users and Device Group Access.
2) Click Device Group Access.
3) Select (left-click once) the remote user or remote user group within the left pane.
​4) Select (left-click once) a device group in the right pane.
5) Click Modify Device Group Access.
6) Select the desired radial buttons for Monitoring Access and Surveillance Access.
7) Click OK to save the changes.
Remote: Deleting an Authentication Server

1) Within the DCE Desktop Client navigate to the System Menu and select Users and Device Group Access.

3) Select (left-click once) the Authentication Server.

AD/LDAP Remote Users cannot be added to Local Groups

\n
- In order to define permissions on a group scale with Remote Users and Remote User Group, defined within the AD/LDAP servers, must be used.  Adding remote users to local user groups is not supported.  This is working as designed.
\n


AD/LDAP Search Base may be Too Large

\n
- If only some remote users are able to login or binding during configuration takes too long (or produces an error) the search base may be too large.
- DCE supports search bases up to 10000 objects, including: Users, User Groups, Containers, etc.
- Multiple authentication servers can be created if the authentication server setup allows. Within each respective authentication server entry, the users and user groups must be in that respective search base.
\n

AD/LDAP Users and User Groups must be within the same search base
\n
- AD/LDAP users and user groups must exist within the same search base.  If the users are located outside of the search base, they will be unable to authenticate, even if the user group has been selected within the authentication server settings.  To correct the issue, ensure the search base includes both the users and user groups.  This is working as designed.
\n


Active Directory Users must login using Pre-Windows 2000 Usernames

\n
- Users must login using the Pre-Windows 2000 username (found within the Properties of the User Object in Active Directory).
- The syntax of the user may be slightly different that the username used to log into other systems.
- The username case must be used exactly as shown within the Pre-Windows 2000 username.
- If there is a space within the username, try to log using quotes around the username, EX: "John Smith"
\n

Active Directory Group Type
\n
- If adding User Groups from Active Directory instead of individual user objects, the User Group CANNOT be a Global Group.  Change the User Group type to Universal to resolve the issue.
\n

Issues Binding to Search Base that Contains an Object starting with #
\n
- AD objects that begin with a # can cause parsing issues within DCE.  You will see an error if this happens that states 'Invalid Attribute.'  Typically binding to a Search Base one container higher than the one that contains the object beginning with '#' will resolve the issue.  However, you cannot select any AD Objects within the container that also contains the '#' object.
\n

Protected Users
\n
- Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 have a Protected Users group.  As of DCE 7.4.1, adding a user that is also a member of this group will cause authentication to fail.

Users can no longer log into DCE after changing Active Directory or OpenLDAP structure.

- DCE records the specific structure of the authentication server search base.  You will need to remove and re-add the AD/LDAP user/group within the authentication server settings.  This is working as designed.

Unable to remove Active Directory Groups (Authentication Server Offline)
\n
- If the configured AD/OpenLDAP server goes offline or is decommissioned before the Authentication Server is removed from DCE, the groups added through the authentication server may not be able to be deleted.  If possible, put the active directory user back on-line to process the deletion.  Once communication can occur between the two systems, the Authentication Server entry can be removed.
- If the server cannot be brought back online with the same IP or server name, contact your local technical support for assistance.
\n

"Unable to Reach Host" message during Authentication Server Configuration
\n
- The error indicates that the client is unable to access the remote Authentication Server at the address/port provided.
- The client computer must have access on the network to the Authentication server as it is performing the connection during the configuration.
- When the configuration is finished the DCE appliance will connect to the Authentication Server(s) for user verification.  The Client to Authentication Server connection is only used during configuration of the Authentication Server.
\n
- This message is not logged in any DCE client or Server logs.
\n

After upgrading to 7.8.0.46, users that are added via Active Directory groups can no longer authenticate.
\n
There was an issue that prevented users that are added to Data Center Expert via an Active Directory group from authenticating.  This issue has been corrected in version 7.8.0.47, but at this time there is no fix for users that have already upgraded to 7.8.0.46.  This issue is being actively worked on by development for a fix to the 7.8.0.46 version.  The only current work around is that the users can be individually added into Data Center Expert via Active Directory, instead of using Groups.

STOP! All Third-Party Devices must have an associated Device Definition File (DDF) added into Data Center Expert to accurately view device sensors and alarms. Data Center Expert by default has some Third-Party DDF files preinstalled. NOTE: If at any point you are using copy and paste, ensure to paste into Notepad first to remove any formatting.  Copying from other programs may alter the true values or add spaces to the strings.

1) You will need to obtain the following information from the device you wish to discover:
     - SNMPv1: Read community string.
     - SNMPv3: Username, Authentication Protocol, Authentication Passphrase, Privacy Protocol, & Privacy Passphrase.

2) DCE Desktop Client > Device menu > Add Devices.

3) Device Discovery Type > SNMPv1 or SNMPv3 > Next.

4) Enter the IP or the IP Range. IP Range can be expressed using wildcards (10.10.10.*) or dashes (10.10.10.1-99).
NOTE: It is recommended to limit the number of IPs that are scanned.  The larger the number of IPs that need to be scanned will lead to longer device discovery times.

5) Enter the required information for device discovery.

6) Alter the Port number if the device is configured to use a different port.

7) Click Next to navigate to the Choose Device Group screen.

8) Choose the device group that you wish the device to be part of and click Next.
NOTE: Only one group may be chosen. If the discovery will be for multiple devices that need to be within different groups, it is recommended to discover them into the Unassigned group.  You can then drag and drop them into the desired device group (Monitoring perspective > Device View pane / Device Groups pane).

STOP!  It is important to not click Finish if you wish to run the discovery at this point in time.  If you have already clicked finish, navigate to: Monitoring Perspective > Saved Discoveries Pane. Locate the created discovery, right-click on it, and select Run.

9) Enable the discovery scheduling, if desired.  Check the Box for Run Discovery Now and click Finish.

10) Discovered devices should start to show within the device group that they were selected to be discovered into. If the device(s) did not discover, please proceed to the troubleshooting section below.
NOTE: Activity Progress can be seen within the Saved Discoveries pan within the Monitoring perspective.

Third-Party SNMP Device Discovery Troubleshooting

1) Navigate to the Monitoring Perspective

2) Within the Device Groups pane, select All Devices.

3) Within the Device View pane, search for the IP Address of a device in question.  If the device shows, the device was either successfully discovered in the previous steps, or was discovered at some point in the past.  You can drag and drop the device into the desired device group to keep your devices organized.  If there are no results, proceed to the next step.

4) Within the Saved Discovery pane, right-click on the discovery and select edit to view the settings.  If the settings are not correct, make the necessary changes and run the discovery again.  If the settings all match, proceed to step 6.
NOTE: Input the passphrases again, as you will be unable to verify text due to security measures. 

5) Edit the Saved Discovery and increase timeouts to 10 seconds and retries to 5.  This allows the device more time to communicate with Data Center Expert.  Run the discovery again and wait until the activity status goes to idle. 

8) Delete the device from the DCE Desktop Client > Monitoring perspective > select Device Group > Device View pane > Right-click on device and select delete.

If the device discovery issue is still present after verifying the information above, including verification through your network team that traffic is not blocked, reach out to your local technical support .

To start the test, apply a Run command to the soft starter by pressing the RUN button on the display terminal or via the STOP and RUN control terminals.
To stop the test, apply a Stop command to the soft starter by pressing the STOP / RESET button on the display terminal or via the STOP and RUN control terminals.

Note:
The [Small Motor Test] SST test function is set to [No] when the soft starter control supply is disconnected.
Upon next power-up the soft starter, including [Phase Loss Monit] PHP and [Control Mode] CLP, will return to its previous configuration.
