QO, QOB, and HOM arc fault (CAFI) and dual function (DF) circuit breaker troubleshooting tips using time saver diagnostics

Product Line:
QO, QOB and Homeline Arc Fault (CAFI) and Dual Function (DF) circuit breakers.  White and Purple test buttons.

Resolution:
NOTE: Read all cautions and warnings in the literature and on the product.  Electrical work and troubleshooting should be done by an authorized person.
Should a connected load be causing a fault the CAFI breaker will trip to protect the circuit and not perform the TSD.
For clear TSD results loads should be removed from the circuit.

CAFI and DF Fault Indication Procedure - Time Saver Diagnostics
  1. Place circuit breaker in the O/OFF position.
  2. Firmly press and continue holding the ‘TEST’ button through Step 4.
  3. Move handle to I/ON position.
  4. Circuit breaker should trip at one of the following times.
Trips Instantly (less than 1 second) Fault to ground; includes:
  • Arcing to ground
  • Shared neutral
  • Grounded neutral
  • Ground fault
Trips at 2.0 seconds Arc fault; includes:
  • Parallel arc fault
  • Series arc fault
Trips at 5.0 seconds Procedure complete; includes:
  • No Fault
  • Thermal overload
  • Short circuit
NOTE: Once you have recorded the TSD results. Please reset Fault Indication by using below procedure before leaving job site:
  1. Perform the CAFI Fault Indication Procedure a total of 6 times
  2. Verify by performing CAFI Fault Indication Procedure with a trip at 5.0 seconds (procedure complete) result.
An automatic reset of Fault Indication will occur if the CAFI circuit breaker has been powered continuously for 27 days.
