Schneider Electric as a partner in an R&D collaborative project
DREAM
The 3-year DREAM (Distributed Renewable resources Exploitation in electric grids through Advanced Heterarchical Management) demonstration project set the foundation for a novel heterarchical approach for managing complex electrical grids in order to:
- Provide new mechanisms for economical and ecological electricity use by consumers.
- Enable stable and cost-effective integration of distributed renewable resources.
DREAM aimed to demonstrate the economic and technical feasibility of the solutions through:
- Testing of several real-world, small-scale pilots with dedicated purposes.
- Computer simulations to study scalability.
Schneider Electric provided the hardware platform while its Seville and Grenoble R&D teams evaluated the technology’s industrial potential.
Funded by the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Commission (Grant agreement no:609359), the project had a €5.9M budget from September 2013 to August 2016.
Partners: Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble, Telvent Energía, HENDO (Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator), University of St. Gallen, ICCS, KEMA, SEA, TNO (Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek), Fraunhofer Institut, University of Kassel, ACT, and Electricite Strasbourg.
