Schneider Electric as a partner in an R&D collaborative project
LIFESF6FREE
The 4.5-year pan-European LIFESF6FREE pilot project aims at implementing SF6-free medium voltage prototypes.
The objective of LIFESF6FREE is to demonstrate a robust alternative to using SF6, extremely potent greenhouse gas considered one of the worst for its GWP (Global Warming Potential) - each ton of SF6 constitutes the equivalent of 23,894 tons of CO2.
The gas substitution is based on 3 pillars:
- safety first,
- low GWP,
- open (vs. patented) gases.
The project, scheduled to be carried out from July 2019 to January 2024, has a budget of €5.9M with up to 55% being financed by Life program (EASME) of the European Commission (grant agreement no. CCM/FR/001155).
