Error while generating web report: The Sort expression for the table 'shiftDescriptionTable' contains an error: Conversion from string "12:00 a.m." to type 'Date' is not valid.

Generating a web report fails with the following error:

Web Reports (browser-rendered)
Internet Explorer installed on the reporting host or client

Cause:

Internet Explorer version 6 or older is installed and is not a supported browser for this Web Reports deployment. The legacy browser fails when the report engine sorts fields containing AM/PM time strings (for example, “12:00 a.m.”), which results in the conversion-to-Date error.

Resolution:

1. Check the installed browser version on the Web Reports host (and any client used to render reports).
2. Upgrade Internet Explorer to a supported version (IE 7 or newer) on the affected machine(s).
3. Re-test web report generation.
4. Optional: If reports still fail, clear the browser cache and restart the reporting service (or IIS, if applicable), then test again.

Note: Changing regional time format and rebooting does not resolve this issue if the underlying browser version is unsupported.
