On the heels of COP26, there is universal agreement on the need to accelerate sustainability practices. Metrics need to be established for significant industries including data centers.

Steven Carlini's latest blog discusses how Schneider Electric is taking the lead on this initiative and proposing a comprehensive environmental sustainability framework in White Paper 67, A Guide to Environmental Sustainability Metrics for Data Centers. This paper proposes categories and metrics for Beginning, Advanced, and Leading data center operators. The Beginning categories include Energy Use, Greenhouse Gas Emissions, and Water Utilization. Advanced categories add Waste and the Leading category includes a Land and Biodiversity.
