Validating seismic code conformance for electrical equipment can be a confusing, time-consuming process. Equipment requirements are dependent on the location of a building construction site using a code’s country-specific seismic hazard level. Shake-table testing of the equipment is conducted using random multifrequency input to determine equipment seismic capacity while including building amplification affects. This paper describes an innovative time-saving approach to seismic qualification of electrical equipment for any building code that contains seismic provisions. This novel approach establishes a global “measuring stick” to transform seismic conformance into a trans-parent and objective process that can be universally applied.
