NSTAR, a large utility company that serves the Boston area, has implemented wireless sensors as a cost-effective way to meet its remote monitoring and control requirements. This approach enabled the utility to avoid the costs associated with a wired solution: construction permits, trenching, excavation, traffic control, additional material, and cumbersome programming requirements. In addition, using wireless sensors allowed NSTAR to improve its operations without drilling under city streets to run tubing and conduit. The solution aligns with NSTAR’s focus on sustainable energy and minimal environmental impact and improves efficiencies, safety, and value to customers.
