Are the PM8000 series meters capable of measuring earth leakage current?

Issue:
A customer would like to know if an earth leakage current measurement is available for the PM8000 series meters.

Product Line:
PM8000 series

Environment:
default measurements

Cause
Need to know if the PM8000 series meter is capable of measuring earth leakage current

Resolution:
The PM8000 has an output register called 'I5' in the Power Meter module which does precisely this. It calculates the instantaneous residual current from I1,2,3, and 4. Because it is treated like a real current channel, you can also capture waveforms and display harmonics from I5.

The caveat is that the wiring setup must have a CT on each line, I1, I2, and I3 (and I4 for 4-WYE). Otherwise your residual will include any current not measured directly by a CT.

Note:

I5 is calculated by: I5= I1 + I2 + I3 + I4
